Despite the very sunny and scorching hot weather, visitors were very interested in visiting the Brno flyover. They had the unique opportunity to walk on foot over the more than 18-meter-high bridge with unique views of Brno even before it opened for car traffic for good. Heavy traffic has been bothering the residents of Brno for decades, which is why every newly planned section of the large urban ring road being built is received with quite enthusiasm.

It was no different this time, the participation in the tour of the flyover was expected to be high. The media often speculate about the number of visitors to similar events, but the city of Brno wants to rely on accurate data. And that's what we're here for.

Our solution

Our mobile AI autonomous sensor was installed on Rokytova Street at the entrance point to the overpass - just a couple of hours before the event started. To detect and count the number of visitors, we used a version of the viMAS sensor (VisionCraft Mobile Autonomous Sensor), which allows installation wherever the infrastructure for connecting a classic viSEN sensor is not available. The sensor is mounted on a trolley with a mast. In the case of this unique event, we didn't want to leave anything to chance, so we fitted the mast with a backup sensor to be able to collect additional data and provide even more accurate results.

"The viMAS sensor can also be provided for a one-day detection analysis, which makes it an ideal solution for events of this type."

The entire system was prepared the day before the event so that the measurements could be started with the first visitors. Due to the expected very warm summer day, we further enriched the measurement with weather data from the venue, thanks to which it was possible to observe the relationship between the current number of visitors and the outside conditions at any moment.

The viMAS sensor can also be ordered for a one-day detection analysis, which makes it an ideal solution for events of a similar type as the open day at the Brno flyover.

Conclusion

The measurement confirmed what was generally expected - participation in the event was high despite a very sunny and a hot day, though the peak was during the morning hours when the temperatures were bearable. Real-time measured data was made available to the city of Brno online in a clear dashboard and also sent to the city's internal information system using an API. The public was subsequently informed about the total participation in the event.

Statement of the contracting authority

In order to evaluate the success of the Open day of the overpass construction site connecting the large city ring in Brno, we wanted to rely on accurate and real-time data of the number of visitors. The option of renting the technology for the one-day event from VisionCraft, who took care of everything and delivered the mobile sensory unit and data in real time and at the required quality, proved to be the right choice. During the data collection, we had the opportunity to monitor the graphs and notifications with the number of visitors online, which enabled us to continuously inform both the city management and the management of the road owner - ŘSD.
